08 Aug Top 25 STEM Colleges 2017
The future is STEM, but do students of all backgrounds get a fair shot at that future?
The top 25 STEM colleges (defined as one with over 50% STEM majors, per the Department of Education’s College Scorecard) are far from monolithic, but their undergraduate population lacks the gender and ethnic diversity of other schools. Nationwide, over 57.3% of undergraduate students in 2015 were women; at these 25 schools, that number falls to 37.4%, according to data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education data System. Only Johns Hopkins, the No. 6 STEM-centric school, has more women students than men students.
