12 Oct Let’s Talk About Why ‘Girl’ Is A Mindset On International Day Of The Girl
People often ask me why I used the term “girl” when naming the Girls’ Lounge. I say the word “girl” isn’t about age or life stage; girl is about having a mindset of being bold and brave. It’s about holding on to that sense of wonder and adventure. Men have their “Boys Club,” so I created the Girls’ Lounge for women.
We’re utilizing this mindset to change the workplace rules that no longer work and reimagine the new ones. We’ve come a long way in terms of gender equality, but the number of women in positions of power remain low. Only about 6% of Fortune 500 companies are run by women. Less than 25% of the U.S. Senate is made up of women. Globally, women’s participation in parliamentwas 23% in 2016.
Equality is not a female issue, its a social and economic imperative. In fact, $12 trillion could be added to global GDP by 2025 if we reach full gender equality, according to the McKinsey Global Institute.
