Pupils from six primary schools across London recently graduated from Mosaic’s Primary School mentoring programme at a pair of special ceremonies held over two days at the offices of Norton Rose Fulbright.

In the presence of their mentors, teachers and families, pupils from Islamia Primary School; Barham Primary School; William Davis Primary School; Elsley Primary School; Thomas Buxton Primary School and Shapla Primary School shared their experiences of participating in the programme.

The events featured keynote speeches from Shareefa Choudhury of the Department for International Development and Tabassum Awan of State Street Bank.

Shareefa Choudury said: “Mosaic is a fantastic project to lift the aspirations and build the confidence of both the pupils and the parents that take part in it. It’s clear how much the children benefit from the mentoring, and the mentors I’ve spoken to say they get a lot out of it too.”

Mosaic’s Primary School programme seeks to equip young people with the skills and confidence they need to connect education to a work at an early age. Often the programmes focus on girls and their mothers, raising aspirations and broadening expectations of what’s possible in adult life. Volunteer mentors from professional backgrounds act as role models to the pupils and encourage them to aspire to careers in a range of different sectors.

Robyn Brown, Mosaic’s Regional Manager in London and the South East said: “This was a lovely day and a chance to celebrate the huge progress that these young people have made during their time on the Mosaic mentoring programme. To hear them speak so positively about their future plans is truly inspiring.”

The graduation events were made possible by the generous support of Human Appeal and Norton Rose Fulbright.
